Thinkers Lodge
Pugwash, Nova Scotia
In 1957, at the height of the Cold War, this peaceful place hosted the first Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs. Invited by philanthropist Cyrus Eaton, leading scientists from both sides of the Iron Curtain discussed the dangers of nuclear weapons and their duty to work to eliminate them. This pioneering and controversial meeting gave birth to the Pugwash movement, which became an influential advocate for nuclear disarmament.
A place of inspiration and reflection, the Thinkers Lodge remains a symbol for the Pugwash movement and the pursuit of world peace.
