Place Rita-Lafontaine

Origin and meaning
This commemorative square is located at 1325, place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, behind the Maison de la Culture de Trois-Rivières. Its name commemorates Rita Lafontaine (1939-2016), an actress born in Trois-Rivières, known for her roles in theatre, film and television. She has received several awards for her many performances, including four Gémeaux awards. It should be noted that she has played in several creations by author Michel Tremblay. In 2009, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) and, in 2011, she was awarded the title of Officer of the National Order of Quebec. It should also be noted that a certificate program in theatre performance was created at UQTR on the initiative of Rita Lafontaine.
